I Knew I was out-of-date when…
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to play in the string section for a musical. I was in “the pit,” as it is called.
When it came time to tuning the other instruments, I used a trusty tuning fork to tune my instrument. Another member wanted to cross-check the tuning of old technology (the tuning fork) with…a tuner made for the iPhone app!
It was at that point that I knew that even in music, technology will find a way to replace (or substitute) traditional tools.
Is there no application available from Apple that will render older technology obsolete?
What about the fax machine?
It turns out that there is an application for fax machines here, for $3.99. This application was created by zosh.com.
When staff is impressed by the promises of some IT project deliverables, The old joke, “will it make you coffee too” may one day itself become an obsolete joke as well.
Do you have an iPhone? What is your favorite iPhone application?

I have an iPhone, courtesy of Blogging Idol V1.
I actually have 2 since I upgraded as well.
I have many apps – more than 60
But I use messaging and facebook all the time.
I use LinkedIn reasonably often, and BeJewelled 2 way too much. I use various camera apps but not everyday. Oh yes, can’t do without the weather. Shazam sometimes, maps once in a while, just getitng used to CIBC on the iphone, I use calendar and contacts too……but although I have a lot of music on it I don’t like walking around with earphones.
I have decided I like my iphone better than my blackberry.
Aren’t you sorry you asked?

Don, you might be sorry to learn that there is talk that iPhone will be able to hear and then translate voice. I also heard there’s an app for iPhone to listen to songs and to tell you the name of the song!
iPhone is truly an amazing device. I’ve researched others in depth (Motorola and Google) and they’ll be lucky to get a small % of this market.
Blackberry is still the enterprise choice so I don’t see its market share falling. Who’s to say bb messenger won’t be a selling feature for those who don’t want a data plan and costly text messages?

Song listening is Shazam – works well in quiet places. I’ve used it a few times. You can immediately buy the song you hear from iTunes
Automated translation is yet another Star Trek idea, I think, and makes sense, although I don’t know if I’d use it much. Real time translation would be neat to play with though
I actually like Facebook via iPhone and use it while sitting at my desk instead of my desktop PC – over WiFi of course to avoid charges
It’ll be interesting to see how the combo of iPhone, iPad and iTunes plays out – whether you’ll use the iPad for most of the games and Internet browsing and the iPhone for other things.
